You are here: Home Patio Furniture Marco Polo Chair Company

Marco Polo Chair Company was founded in 1999 by Tom Greene and Scott Berry. Tom and Scott have been lifelong friends. Tom's father, B.J. Greene was the originator of the Bean Bag Chair, and Scott's grandfather, Russell Johnston, founded Johnston Tombigbee Furniture Manufacturing Company in 1932. Over many years and as a result of Tom's extensive travel and deep interest in history, he discovered a similarly designed chair that was used by the Italian Army at the turn of the last century. He further discovered photographs of Henry Ford on his renowned camping expeditions using chairs of similar design. He then set to work attempting to modify the design form the originals "upright" to a modified "lounging" design. After years of testing and modifications, the design that you see today was completed; design patents were filed, and the marketing plan was put into place. The "Marco Polo" design has been thoroughly tested for integrity, and rigorous manufacturing specifications have been met. The unique design is virtually indestructible, and with proper care will last a lifetime. We offer a variety of sling options, suitable for outdoor, as well as indoor use. Lightweight and easily portable, the Explorer and Traveler chair is great for camping, the beach, soccer games, or just relaxing in the back yard.
